For Accountants
Clean MTD-ready data from your trade clients, by default.
Your clients use WhatsApp. Wedge captures every invoice, expense and mileage entry as they happen, then hands you clean CSVs that drop straight into FreeAgent, Xero, QuickBooks or Sage.
Wedge is the upstream of your existing process
We don't replace your accounting software. We feed it cleaner data.
Clean records, captured at source
Every invoice your client sends through WhatsApp lands in Wedge as a structured row — customer, line items, VAT treatment, dates. No more end-of-year spreadsheets reconstructed from memory.
CSV exports that import without massaging
One click in the dashboard or a WhatsApp message produces UTF-8 CSVs with stable column shapes for invoices, expenses and mileage. FreeAgent, Xero, QuickBooks and Sage all accept them as-is.
MTD ITSA record-keeping by default
Every invoice and expense is timestamped and stored digitally as your client creates it. That satisfies the digital-record-keeping side of MTD ITSA — quarterly submission still flows through your usual HMRC-recognised software.
CIS-aware out of the box
Labour, materials and CIS deduction are split on every relevant invoice. No untangling 20/30/0 gross-payment treatment at year-end.
What you actually get
Three CSVs per tax year, per client. Columns are stable and documented; nothing disappears between releases without notice.
Frequently asked
- Is Wedge HMRC-recognised filing software?
- No. Wedge is not on HMRC's recognised-software list for MTD ITSA quarterly submission, and we're explicit about that. Wedge produces MTD-compliant digital records that you (or your client) submit through FreeAgent, Xero, QuickBooks, GoSimpleTax, or any other recognised tool. The CSV exports are designed for exactly that hand-off.
- Which file formats are supported?
- UTF-8 CSV with a BOM for Excel compatibility, RFC 4180 escaping, and ISO dates. One file per entity: invoices, expenses, mileage. Money is in major units (pounds with two decimals) plus a separate currency column.
- How does my client send me their CSV?
- Three ways. (1) Your client downloads it from their Wedge dashboard at /dashboard/tax-summary. (2) They message Wedge on WhatsApp — "send me my invoices CSV for 2024/25" — and Wedge replies with a hosted URL they forward to you. (3) You can have them grant you dashboard access (coming soon).
- Does the CSV include voided or cancelled invoices?
- No. The invoice CSV includes only sent, processing and paid invoices, which matches the figures on the annual tax-summary PDF. Pending, failed and cancelled rows are excluded so reconciliation doesn't pick up phantom revenue. Ask us if you need a separate audit-trail export.
- What does Wedge cost the tradesperson?
- 1% per paid invoice, capped at £50 per invoice. No subscription, no document caps, no per-export fees. Stripe processing fees on card payments are absorbed into that 1%. The dashboard, WhatsApp interface and CSV exports are all included.
- Can I refer clients?
- A formal partner programme is on the roadmap. For now, send your trade clients to wedge.business and they can sign up in 60 seconds — they'll show up in your existing import flow as soon as they start sending invoices.
